Education > Overview

Education is the foundation for the existence of the Austin Business Travel Association. We were founded in 1990 by a small group of travel industry leaders that wanted to raise the knowledge and professionalism of those individuals whose careers were in managing or selling travel related services. Each of our monthly meetings is designed to provide current, leading edge information and knowledge sharing among our membership, or to create a comfortable social environment where networking and peer recognition can be accomplished informally.

ABTA supports the pursuit of professional certification through the National Business Travel Association, their programs, and their educational offerings. Annual scholarships are awarded to local high school seniors to pursue higher education in the hospitality or travel management field, and to association members to enable them to attend the annual national conference. NBTA, and IBTM, also offer educational scholarships to a variety of programs. Please access the information below for additional details.

Training

As an affiliate of the National Business Travel Association, ABTA supports and recognizes the professional education programs they offer. Currently, training is focused in 4 concentrated areas:

    Fundamentals of Business Travel Management/CTE
The Fundamentals of Business Travel Management course is NBTA’s starter course focusing on the basics of business travel management.  This workshop is designed as a guide to the primary components of managed travel and how each component intersects with the required competencies and skill sets needed in business travel management.

Global Leadership Professional Program
The Global Leadership Professional (GLP) program is a master's level executive education program developed by the NBTA Foundation in conjunction with The Wharton School.  It is the only master's level accredited course offered within the business travel industry, and is designed to build upon NBTA's Certified Corporate Travel Executive (CCTE) program.
